The Culford Flock

About - Justin Hammond

Born in Bury St Edmunds in 1978 Justin was not really interested in school and although not from a farming background he developed a passion for outdoor activities and a love of wildlife, conservation and the environment which lead to the launch of his business in 2002.

Even while he was at school he was keeping sheep and poultry. He bought 20 sheep from a lady in Honnington and rented land at Whepstead and the business has gone from strength to strength.

With no formal training in Farming he has developed his broad expertise and knowledge “on the job”. He learnt to shear sheep when he told a farmer that he had never done this before and the farmer said “Well there are two and a half thousand sheep out in the field you can practice on them!” Needless to say he is now a very competent sheep shearer. Last year with the price of fleece quite low he gave away the fleeces to a lady for a donation to the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

Justin is married to Kim and they have two children a daughter Sadie and a son Culford. The children are already showing an interest in the family business.

Adam was extremely interested in the way that The Culford Flock is farmed in traditional yet environmentally friendly way. Justin is developing his contacts with Adam and hopes to pick up some good ideas for the future.
